Degree Teaching

Finance academics in the School of Business deliver industry-focused teaching that combines strong theoretical foundations with practical, real-world application. Through the Applied Finance and FinTech major and the Master’s programs, students develop expertise in areas such as corporate finance, bank management, international finance, investment and securities analysis, and emerging financial technologies. Teaching emphasises experiential learning through real cases, applied research projects, and hands-on engagement in our Financial Training Lab, enabling students to build the analytical, technical, and professional skills required in the rapidly evolving finance and FinTech sectors. The curriculum also supports career readiness through a strong focus on innovation, numeracy, and professional development, with graduates eligible to qualify as Associates of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).

Research

Our Finance academics’ research priorities centre on understanding financial markets, risk, sustainability, and technological transformation in an increasingly interconnected global economy. Key areas of focus include asset pricing, portfolio diversification, banking stability, cryptocurrency and digital finance, green finance and climate risk, and home-bias financial market behaviour. Research also examines emerging issues such as AI-driven financial systems, Shariah-compliant finance, market volatility during crises, and the role of financial inclusion and sustainability in economic development. Across these themes, the research employs advanced econometric, behavioural finance, and quantitative modelling approaches to generate insights relevant to investors, regulators, policymakers, and financial institutions.
