Orientation and Student Support

Preparation for Orientation

You might be wondering how students can prepare for their university learning and Orientation Day. On this page you will find helpful information on how to get to campus, what to bring to university as well as other student support services.

Our innovative Parramatta South campus offers interactive, technology-enabled learning studios and unique study spaces.

The best way to travel to Parramatta South campus via the train and light rail/shuttle bus.

Via public transport – the WSU shuttle runs regularly between our Parramatta City Campus (located next to Parramatta Station) and Parramatta South Campus, stopping directly outside of Building EA. Details on the bus schedule are available here along with a live Shuttle Tracker.

Via Metro and Light Rail – you can now travel from Parramatta City Campus (Parramatta Square Light Rail station, or from further afield) to Parramatta South Campus (Yallamundi Light Rail Station), and then walk to Building EA (~5 minute easy walk). Some helpful step-by-step instructions are available here.

Finding your class at university can be challenging. Here’s a simple explanation of how to find on-campus locations. A location is made up of the campus, building, floor and room number. There may also be the type of room noted at the end in brackets.

Example Explanation

  • PS-EA.G.18
    • PS = Parramatta South Campus
    • EA = Building EA
    • G = Ground Floor
    • 18 = Room number 18

The campus safety and security team aim to provide a safe and secure environment for students and staff. Western Sydney University's Library has the largest database in the southern hemisphere. Students can reserve study rooms, borrow books, print, consult with a study smart librarian, and use the sleeping pods. To book in a Study Smart session to learn how to search our database and ask questions regarding referencing and academic literacy/integrity, click the link here. There is also a large range of self-help resources found on the Library webpage, such as study skills, referencing tips and tools. Click here to explore the Library website.

If you need help with referencing, the library's referencing and citation page is a great place to start, including FAQ's and videos.

Our Library opening hours vary from campus to campus, and can be found here.

There is so much to learn when you start university. This book will focus on the most important academic skills you'll need to get started, leaving sufficient 'room' for actual learning and reducing your cognitive load. This book aims to give you a quick understanding of these skills which you can then apply within your area of study.

The Academic Integrity Module (AIM) is a module that all commencing students at Western must complete. This module reviews academic integrity, academic misconduct, referencing and resources for studying with integrity. This online module takes approximately one hour to complete, and all students must receive 100% in the quiz.

Students are required to finish this module before the Orientation day on campus, as the Academy U team will be checking off students who have completed it. The Academic Integrity Module is located on the students’ vUWS site as a subject.

If students are having issues accessing the module they should reach out to the Academy U team at westernengagement@westernsydney.edu.au.

Student ID Cards are essential as a university student. Students will be using their student card as a form of ID to borrow books and access the library. Students will be applying for their student ID card via Capture Me on the Western website.

Students need to select their home address as the delivery method and their cards will be sent there.  Follow the link below, select ‘New commencing students’ and click the ‘Apply Online for ID Card’ button – click here to get started.

Students will need to prove their identity with either a driver’s license, passport, photo card or school ID card, including legal name, photo and date of birth. They will also need to upload a photo that meets all criteria listed on the website link above.

Students will need to bring a laptop or device to Orientation, as well as Workshops 1 and 2. Students are also encouraged to bring a drink bottle and use the water fill stations on campus.

Students will receive their Chicago 17 referencing guide and other resources at Orientation.
