Fast Forward

Years 9 - 12

Seeing the potential in every student.

We believe in unlocking the potential in every student. It’s why our Fast Forward program (in partnership with high schools throughout Western Sydney) encourages students to see the value in continuing their education through year 12 and beyond. Guiding students through various educational crossroads, the program helps students commit to continuing through senior school and assists in subject selection with a focus on future career choices.

By building student confidence and academic ability, the program aims to increase the awareness of post-school educational opportunities, and promotes the benefits of lifelong learning and the career paths it leads to.

Commencing in year 9 and continuing through year 12, the program consists of activities and events tailored to each year group beginning with Welcome to Western evenings through to Fast Forward University experience days and culminating in attendance at Western U Day, the Year 12 Conference and HSC study workshops.

Fast Forward Year 9

Kicking off with our Welcome to Western Evening, students and their families are welcomed to the Western Sydney University community and informed about the exciting opportunities that lay ahead.

Throughout the year students will participate in In-School Workshops designed to enhance social and academic skills and assist them in reaching their full potential. Students will also be invited to attend our “Rise to the Challenge” University Day at their local Western campus and see first-hand what university can offer them. Students will also take part in a Studiosity workshop.

Fast Forward Year 10

Continuing to build skills and confidence is the focus of the program for Year 10 students. In-School Workshops will identify educational goals and give students the opportunity to engage in interactive learning sessions with program staff.

Our University Day for Year 10 students is centred on “Unleashing Your Unlimited Potential”. Program participants will explore university facilities, and hear from current students who will share insights into their real-world, personal university experience. A key focus of the day is providing students an opportunity to discuss their career aspirations and discover possible study pathways to their goal.

Fast Forward Year 11

This year students have the opportunity to take part in one-on-one sessions with program staff to further discuss career aspirations and study pathways. You’ll also be invited to Western U Day, a day designed to help you prepare for your course and career journey.

You’ll have the opportunity to speak with current students, academics and professional staff and experience the range of courses available to you through interactive workshops and presentations. You’ll also learn about scholarship opportunities and our unique pathway programs.

Fast Forward Year 12

Students will attend our annual Year 12 Conference and engage with program staff and industry leaders through a series of informative and interactive sessions focused on different career opportunities. Aimed to enhance their knowledge of career choices and areas of study, the conference will allow students to talk to staff from student enquiries, UAC, industry professionals as well as University lecturers.

With their focus on final year studies, our program becomes less intensive. Our goal here is to support students through their final year of high school with our HSC Study Sessions. Held during the September school holidays, our free HSC Study Sessions aim to help students improve exam scores, learn invaluable study and preparation techniques, and learn how to optimise exam responses. Taught by HSC teachers and Western’s own academic staff, the HSC Study Sessions cover 14 different subjects and are held on campus.

And as they did in Year 11, students will again have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with program staff through our support sessions.
