Process for Applicants

MARCS and WSU Processes when applying for a grant

PROCESS FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

For Category 1 ARC and NHMRC grant schemes, WSU Research Services require a Qualtrics EOI form to be filled out so that they can track submissions and allocate staff resources accordingly. These specific form links are sent around months ahead of the schemes in question with a Research Services deadline for their completion. E.g. ARC Discovery Projects 2024 WSU Discovery Project EOI (qualtrics.com)

PROCESS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS

To minimise paperwork for MARCS researchers we do not require a MARCS EOI form from internal applicants, however you must notify Karen Hutchings and John Cass if you are considering applying to these schemes, chat to your mentor and/or Prof Kate Stevens in this regard, and if you are a MARCS school based member and will be submitting through MARCS as the admin org, that your School’s Associate Dean of Research as well as School Dean is aware of your intentions and has approved your participation via email.

The online clearance form (WSU login required) must be completed for all grants you are applying to, even when the administering organization for the grant is not WSU.  This is to ensure that your FTE is approved by your Director/Dean and so that the university has an idea of your grant application activity, which will be assessed for promotion applications.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CATEGORY 2 and CATEGORY 3 GRANTS

As Category 2 and 3 applications become more commonplace, and as numerous as Category 1 applications we have also instituted a Checklist for Mentors and Applicants (for MARCS Staff only) as well as an Information sheet for Applicants to ensure that relevant processes are adhered to and so that applications receive full institutional support from initial concept to full proposal stages.

Please see the WSU Researcher Resources on the university website (WSU login required), which includes access to a budget calculator (including recent Enterprise bargaining Agreement (EBA) salary increases) and exemplars of successful applications.
