Bridges to Higher Education

This website provides information about the Bridges to Higher Education partnership, its partners and an engagement framework toolkit for widening participation practitioners.

Bridges to Higher Education is an ongoing initiative, funded by the Commonwealth Government's Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) from 2012 to 2015, to improve the participation rates of students from communities under-represented in higher education.

The Bridges to Higher Education project brought together the collective resources and experience of the widening participation, equity and social inclusion programs at Western Sydney University, the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University, and the Australian Catholic University. The partnership extended to include NSW DEC, TAFE NSW, the Universities Admissions Centre (NSW & ACU) Pty Ltd, local government organisations, education offices, Indigenous organisations and other community, philanthropic and social enterprise organisations.

Bridges to Higher Education works with primary and secondary schools, TAFE and community partners in Greater Western Sydney to engage young people who previously might not have considered higher education as an option. More than 1.8 million people live in the region which has traditionally been under-represented in higher education participation rates.

At a recent launch event at Rooty Hill High School, Prime Minister Tony Abbott sent his support for Bridges to Higher Education.
