Studying the news through the Australian Curriculum

Our research highlights that Australian school teachers believe it is very important to teach students about the news and many are already regularly doing this. However, some teachers do not believe the Australian Curriculum supports them to teach students about the news or they are unsure if it does.

This short guide is intended to support teachers to identify which of the Australian Curriculum Content Descriptors are most appropriate for studying the news. We have identified Content Descriptors and Year Level Achievement Standards for the Year 6 Curriculum. Teachers are able to use these as a starting point to move up into lower secondary or down into the middle primary years.
