Since its inception in 2017 the Western Sydney University Advancing Media Literacy in Australia research program has received funding grants from the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), Google Australia and Facebook.

The program has worked in partnership with researchers from the Digital Media Research Center at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the News and Media Research Center at the University of Canberra and the Critical Thinking Project at the University of Queensland.
