Redefining the Museum

Panel: Lisa Ffrench, Nathan Mudyi Sentance, Deborah Lawler-Dormer, Jason Reynolds

Chair: Cecelia Cmielewski

Abstract

The renewal of the Powerhouse marks a major shift in how Sydney thinks about itself, its culture and its communities. The Powerhouse will establish a new paradigm for museums through the creation of an institution that is designed to evolve in response to the needs of its growing communities. Join Powerhouse staff for this discussion of how the Powerhouse is redefining cultural infrastructure and First Nations collections care through a focus on relational connections to Country and community, and through ongoing research partnerships with universities and scholars. Through multiple research opportunities, and by amplifying stories and embodying First Nations self-determination, Powerhouse will create a space for dynamic research, difficult conversations, First Nations-led truth telling and for experiences that compel us to raise our eyes from our screens.
