Housing Crisis and Community Resilience: A Pilot Survey
Project Summary
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated Australia’s housing crisis, with rising affordability issues, a constrained housing supply, and increasing vulnerability among disadvantaged communities. This pilot survey seeks to explore how diverse populations are developing resilience in the face of these housing challenges. Our aim is to identify effective strategies and highlight areas requiring policy interventions to foster sustainable living environments during, and beyond, this housing crisis.
Project Significance
This survey is particularly relevant in the current socio-economic climate, as it delves into community-driven resilience mechanisms in response to housing instability, a crisis further compounded by the lasting impacts of COVID-19. By capturing grassroots-level responses, this study will provide insights into how communities adapt to and navigate housing insecurities. The findings will contribute to academic discussions on social resilience and housing, while also guiding policymakers in shaping more inclusive and sustainable housing policies. Ultimately, this pilot survey aims to lay the groundwork for a deeper understanding of resilience as a dynamic, community-led process, offering crucial insights for fostering social cohesion, well-being, and economic stability in the face of housing challenges. It represents an essential step towards achieving resilient and equitable housing solutions in Australia and beyond.
