Associate Professor Mayruresh Korgaonkar

Biography
Associate Professor Mayuresh Korgaonkar is a NHMRC Career Development Research Fellow, the Director of Brain Dynamics Centre at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, and Senior Research Fellow at the Sydney Medical School. He has a strong interest and expertise in developing magnetic resonance imaging techniques and analyses in application to psychiatric and neurological disorders.
He completed his master’s and doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Physics) from Stony Brook University, NY, USA in December 2008. He then joined the Brain Dynamics Centre (BDC), the Westmead Institute and Sydney Area Health Services as a dedicated MRI Scientist in May 2009. He was recently appointed as director of BDC (March 2013). In this role, he leads the scientific direction of the centre with central focus on imaging and an integrative neuroscience approach to establish biomarkers in diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
Associate Professor Korgaonkar was awarded the NHMRC Career Development Fellowship in 2015. This fellowship focuses on using cutting edge neuroimaging techniques to map the “Human Connectome” to advance the understanding of neurobiological underpinnings in psychiatric disorders.
Research Interests
Mayuresh’s research aims to establish integrative biological markers in diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. His research is multidisciplinary and integrates psychiatry, neuroimaging, engineering, neuroscience and genetics. His vision is to translate these findings in real world clinical settings in a personalised medicine approach to maximise direct benefit to patients with these complex disorders.
