Project Synopsis

Our lab is developing a host of neuromorphic audio-visual situational awareness systems for autonomous submersible and surface vessel for use by the Royal Australian Navy. Conventional scene analysis methods often fail in the noisy cluttered environment in which such vehicles must operate. Persistent situational awareness in this edge environment requires low-power, real-time scene analysis systems that can perform rapid seamless audio-visual sensory fusion above and below water. The low-power, high-speed, noise-robust capabilities of neuromorphic sensor-processor systems are ideal for such challenging edge environments.

In collaboration with partners such as DST, University of Sydney, BAE Systems and Raytheon ICNS is leading the way in developing state of the art bio-inspired technologies that protect Australia’s Maritime resources. Our innovative work in this field represents a significant leap forward in the realm of maritime defence capabilities, paving the way for safer and more efficient naval operations.
