What Does 'Ageing in Place' Mean to You?

Participants at the Ageing in Place Workshop, held during Western Research Week 2024, explored key aspects of ageing in place and exchanged insights with industry experts and MARCS researchers.

The workshop aimed to leverage community engagement in advancing our collective understanding and practices in supporting Australia’s ageing population.

We extend our gratitude to the speakers for the insightful talks:

  • Professor Catherine Renshaw, School of Law, Western Sydney University
  • Dr Tom Morris, Head of Research and Information Excellence, HammondCare
  • Dr Mikaela Jorgensen, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
  • Dr Jane Bringolf, Chair, Centre for Universal Design Australia

Key discussions included shifting the focus to ageing in one's 'preferred' place, recognising cultural and traditional roles, and integrating human connections into policy solutions. These ideas highlight the importance of community involvement in shaping effective strategies.

Through collaboration and innovation, we can empower and enable independence in older Australians for longer. Let’s continue to work towards creating supportive environments for generations to come.
