Display
The Western Sydney University Art Collection is a valuable resource for students, staff and the wider community and is displayed in exhibitions and within buildings of Western Sydney University campuses.
Western Sydney Creative recognises that there is a need to balance the care for artworks and the ability for these artworks to be displayed in the University buildings, under variable access and environmental conditions. Western Sydney Creative takes our responsibility for the care of art collection seriously and artworks are routinely checked, and remedial steps taken when and if necessary.
In selecting artworks, the curator considers the forward planning of major exhibitions or for external exhibition loans requests as well as the climatic conditions of a specific space, and therefore selection of artworks for display are at the discretion of the curator.
Space and existing artworks
When requesting artworks please provide photographs of the space, measurements of wall space and the room numbers associated where the artworks would be required (an example of this is in the attached pdf).
If there are existing artworks on display, can you please also forward images of the artworks and their labels, to ensure artwork collection movements are up to date.
Please note not all artworks at WSU are necessarily part of the art collection and therefore an artwork can simply be in the care and responsibility of the school or division. Artworks that are part of the art collection that Western Sydney Creative look after have, gone through an acquisition process.
Units, departments, and schools may have their artwork assets assessed for inclusion for the art collection these artworks would go through the standard process of acquisition as outlines by the art collection development and access policy, if not accessioned they will remain as the unit’s department’s and/or school’s furniture & fittings asset. Acquisitions are endorsed by the Western Sydney Creative Advisory Committee this committee meets 3 times annually.
As part of your request, please confirm whether the space has a picture rail installed? If there is no picture rail, you will need to request this separately via Western Now – operational and corporate services – facilities, estate and commercial. Installation of a picture rail is a division/unit/ school funded expense http://westernsydney.edu.au/infrastructure_services/home/maintenance_and_service
