Renewable energy lead times and environmental approvals for solar, wind and battery projects

Project Summary

This is the first large study of renewable energy development lead-times across the National Electricity Market (NEM), which was recently published in Energy Economics.

We started to research how long projects took to get approved and how long the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) process took when projects were referred to the Federal Government.

This is a follow-up project that focuses on environmental approvals and addresses whether: green tape impacted renewable lead-times, and the types of projects are referred to and then undergo the EPBC process.
