Innovative models for funding green-space oriented housing development

Project Summary

This project aims to bring together diverse stakeholders around green space oriented housing development, focusing on collaborative, sustainable funding for green open spaces. It explores ways to embed green spaces within high-density housing, distributing responsibility for their creation and upkeep. The project addresses key transformation questions: how to design housing connected to green spaces that balances responsibility, and how to support investment decisions through sustainable funding models.

The project responds to an urgent need in housing by tackling the financial challenges of integrating green spaces in urban residential areas. Well-designed green spaces can increase property values, attract residents, support local economies, and promote wellbeing by encouraging outdoor activities. Additionally, green spaces reduce environmental impacts by naturally cooling urban areas, which supports active transport and can lower public health costs through improved physical and mental health. By uplifting public amenities and community acceptance, the project ensures that higher density housing is both attractive and sustainable.
