Fire performance of multi-storey modular buildings
Project Summary
This research focuses on enhancing fire resilience in multistorey modular residential buildings by addressing unique challenges posed by their prefabricated design and material composition. It aims to identify vulnerabilities in current fire safety frameworks and develop solutions such as advanced fire-resistant materials, improved compartmentalisation techniques, and optimised fire barriers. Using computational simulations and physical testing, the project will evaluate modular components under fire scenarios, assessing heat transfer, structural stability, and smoke containment. By integrating smart fire detection and suppression technologies and proposing updates to fire safety codes, the research seeks to ensure safer, sustainable, and resilient modular housing solutions.
