Translational Health Research Scholarships

The Translational Health Research Institute (THRI) is the University’s primary vehicle for advancing health and medical research in Western Sydney and beyond. THRI is interested in training future research leaders capable of tackling the health challenges facing a diverse Australian population and addressing health inequities both here and internationally.

PhD opportunities

Two PhD Scholarships in Translational Health Research are available.

Applications are being sought in the following areas:

• Adolescent mental health
• Complex trauma and pain management
• Chronic health problems
• Health professional education
• Health care systems and data science
• Health and wellbeing of LGBTQI communities
• Infant and child health and wellbeing
• Women’s reproductive health

Eligibility

The successful applicant should:

• hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian or New Zealand Bachelor (Honours Class 1 or Class 2.1) degree, (ii) coursework Masters with at least 25% research component, (iii) Research Masters degree, or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
• Be an Australian or New Zealand resident or an international student with a current Australian visa.
• be enthusiastic and highly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level.

Publications and/or research experience is highly desirable, however, we will consider recent graduates with strong results at Honours or Masters level.

What does a scholarship provide?

• Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000 per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset.
• International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000 per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs. Those with a strong track record will be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
• Access to monthly research meetings and specialist methodology workshops.
• Access to expertise in qualitative health research, epidemiology and biostatistics, longitudinal surveys and panel data, applied clinical and intervention research.

2. At the supervisor's invitation, prepare a two-page research proposal.

6. Compile your CV and contact information for two referees.
7. All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted directly to the Graduate Research School as follows:

   • All attached documents must be submitted as PDF.
   • In the body of your email, include your full name, your student ID (if you are a current or previous Western Sydney University student) and the full title of the scholarship.
