Professor Denis Burnham to present keynote at Reading and Spelling ConferenceProfessor Denis Burnham will present a keynote at the Reading and Spelling: Development, Disorders and Remediation conference at Macquarie University on Wednesday 15 April. 
The conference, hosted by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders, aims to bring together leading researchers from around the world to discuss reading and spelling development, disorders and remediation for both practice and research. 
Professor Burnham's keynote is entitled "Speech perception, literacy, dyslexia, and hearing impairment". 
He will discuss speech input and speech perception, specifically that speech input, primarily from the mother, and speech perception by the infant both begin early, from the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy.
The conference is split into two parts, one day focused on practice for teachers, clinicians and parents and two days focused on research for an academic audience. 
The research days provide an opportunity for researchers to discuss recent research and issues critical to the field of reading and spelling development, disorders and remediation. 
The format includes six keynote presentations and a poster session.
