Professor Kate Stevens will be presenting a Director’s MARCS Institute Update, along with new MARCS Chief Scientist Dr Manuel Varlet, new HDR Director Prof Caroline Jones, new Director of Impact & Engagement Dr Celia Harris, Director of Research Prof Peter Keller, ICNS Director Prof Andre van Schaik, Institute Manager Darlene Williams and Tech Team Leader Leidy Castro-Meneses. There will also be time for Q&A. Please join us in kicking off another new and exciting year in the MARCS Institute. 1pm – MARCS Afternoon Colloquium Speaker: Professor Felicity Baker, Director of International Research Partnerships, Creative Arts and Music Therapy Research Unit, University of Melbourne. Topic: Music Therapy Research in Residential Aged Care and Community Settings: Latest projects by the MIND Research team. Abstract: Over the past 4 years, the MIND research team at The University of Melbourne have been undertaking a series of studies that focus on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of music therapy interventions that have been funded by the EU JPND Research Initiative and in part by the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Boosting Dementia Grant schemes. Professor Baker will present an overview of three international studies focusing on dementia care: 1) “Music Interventions for Depression and Dementia in the Elderly (MIDDEL): Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial” which has research teams in Australia, Norway, UK, The Netherlands, Germany, and Turkey. 2) “Homebased-family caregiver music and reading interventions Home-based caregiver-delivered music and reading interventions for people living with dementia (Homeside) which has research teams in Australia, Norway, Germany, Poland, and the UK and, 3) “Homeside App Development project” which translates the music therapy training program of Homeside into a mobile app for scalable application.
