The US National Institutes of Health has a budget of USD 33.4 billion (AUD 43 billion) to fund extramural research. This is greater than the entire Australian Governments Research and Development budget. While the National Institutes of Health (NIH) mainly funds researchers in the USA, there are no limitations on investigators and foreign institutions' locations that it can fund. Associate Professor Serrador will provide an overview of finding funding opportunities discussing key points when applying for funding, emphasising the common mistakes investigators make and the common pitfalls.

Jorge M. Serrador, PhD, is Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at MARCS, Western Sydney University, and in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience, New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers University and Adjunct Professor of Cardiovascular Electronics at the National University of Ireland Galway. A/Prof Serrador has a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology specializing in brain blood flow regulation and is an expert in vestibular function and the vestibular and cardiovascular system's interaction. A/Prof Serrador has received over 7 million USD in funding as a CI and been a co-investigator on successful grant proposals totalling over 21 million USD. His has been funded by several agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, NASA and the Department of Defense in the United States. He has also been involved with successful grant proposals in Ireland, Portugal and Australia.

After the talk,Dr Leidy Castro-Meneses and Clarissa Montino will give a brief introductory session on Microsoft Teams and some updates on Western Now

This will be presented both on Zoom (via our meeting ID above) and in 3.G.55 as part of the back to campus plan
