Topic: Into the Groove; What makes us move
Speaker: Patti Nijhuis

Humans have a natural tendency to move to music, which has been linked to the tight coupling between the auditory and motor system and the active role of the motor system in the perception of musical rhythms. High-groove music is particularly successful at inducing spontaneous movement, due to the engagement of (motor) prediction processes. However, how music listening transfers to the muscles even when no movement is intended is less known. In this presentation, Patti will discuss the effect of different levels of musical groove hand on activity along the cortico-muscular pathway, as measured by cortico-muscular coherence.

Kaysha Carroll is the Science Librarian, including MARCS and HIE, based at Kingswood. Kaysha is an experienced School Librarian, working with numerous schools and institutes over her 18 years at Western Sydney Library. She is the primary contact for researchers and higher degree research students for the School and Institutes, and can provide advice on the library services and resources throughout the entire research life cycle. In this talk, Kaysha will outline the importance and steps for submitting your publications and data to the University’s research repository, ResearchDirect, which populates the Researcher portal.
