If you’ve ever spent hours renaming files or updating hundreds of spreadsheet cells, you know how tedious tasks like these can be. But what if you could have your computer do them for you even if you have never written a line of code before?

“Automate the boring stuff” is an introductory program targeted at researchers, students, professional staff, and indeed anyone who uses a computer, to show you how to code small, practical programs to automate repetitive and time consuming administrative tasks.  This introductory level information session will cover a range of topics, such as manipulating data, strings, handling files, extracting info from multiple files, sending bulk email and provide practical ideas and skills to deal with monotonous tasks in an accurate and efficient manner.

This will be followed by lunch at 12.40pm.
