ICS graduate wins Emerald Literati Network Award


Steph Baker kneeling on the floor with an indian man holding a piece of paperICS graduate Dr Stephanie Alice Baker has won an 'Outstanding Paper' Emerald Literati Network Award for her paper entitled 'From the criminal crowd to the "mediated crowd": the impact of social media on the 2011 English riots'.

The paper was published in Safer Communities in 2012 and explores the impact of new social media on the 2011 English riots. 

The prestigious award recognises Dr Baker's high quality scholarship and celebrates her contributions to the journal, and to epistemology.  

Dr Baker graduated from ICS in 2010 under the supervision of Professor David Rowe and ICS Adjunct Professor Jack Barbalet. 

She has since gone on to achieve notable success, having received the European Association for the Sociology of Sport's Young Researcher's Award, an Endeavour Research Fellowship and secured a full-time research position at Goldsmiths University of London.
