Research Centres
The Institute for Culture and Society is home to two strategic research centres. Strategic research centres are established around strong research concentrations.
Young and Resilient Research Centre
The Young and Resilient Research Centre embraces an integrated mode of research and development, education, training and enterprise to research and develop technology-based products, services and policies that strengthen the resilience of young people and their communities, enabling them to live well and participate fully in social and economic life.
Young and Resilient works with children and young people all over the planet, researching the role of technology to inform policies, programs and interventions that can minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of the digital age.
The research deploys youth-centred, participatory co-research and co-design methods across four key research programs, underpinned by a Living Lab - Intergener8 Living Lab

Urban Transformations Research Centre (UTRC)
The Urban Transformations Research Centre addresses one of the greatest challenges facing humankind: making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The Centre’s transdisciplinary teams transcend three interrelated Research and Innovation programs: Systems innovation and demonstration, People-Centred Sustainable Precinct Design, and Resilient construction and infrastructure.
The Centre draws on expertise from across Western Sydney University, and within the community, to deliver outcomes based on exemplary demonstration of action-oriented research that will enable impact at scale. They aim to deliver impactful co-designed research outcomes, in collaboration with industry and community partners.
