Professor Caroline Jones

Biography

Professor Caroline Jones is a researcher within the Brain Sciences Program in MARCS.

Caroline received her BA in 1995 from University of Sydney, and PhD in Linguistics in 2003 from University of Massachusetts Amherst USA. Her previous academic positions were teaching-research roles in Education at University of New South Wales (Lecturer, 2005-7) and University of Wollongong (Senior Lecturer, 2007-13).

Research Interests

Caroline's research is focused on three main questions:

1. How can we improve early assessment and intervention (0-3 years) in hearing, speech, and language, especially for multilingual and/or Aboriginal children, in clinical and inclusive community contexts?
2. What strategies and knowledge supports communication and engagement with elderly people, including people with dementia, their families, carers and carestaff?
3. How can we increase the success and sustainability of Indigenous language projects, for a range of learners, teachers and contexts?

Roles / Position Responsibilities

• Caroline is the WSU Discipline Leader for Languages, Linguistics, TESOL, and Interpreting & Translation. Caroline is also a Chief Investigator and Future Tech Thread Deputy for the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language (CoEDL).
