To help you pack

To ensure you settle in comfortably and smoothly, we’ve put together a checklist of some essential items to bring with you to the village. 

  • Students arriving in December to May should note that it will be summer with temperatures ranging from 20°C (68° F) to 35°C (95° F). 
  • Students arriving between June to November should note that it will be winter with temperatures ranging from 8°C (46° F) to 25°C (77° F). 

TIP – Don’t forget to pack coat hangers.

TIP - Don't forget to bring an adapter with you! Australia uses 240 volt AC 50 hertz electricity and three-pin plugs to access power points.

TIP – You can buy many of the above items once you arrive in Australia, so don't worry if you forget to bring something!

Arriving at Sydney Airport

You may qualify for a complimentary airport pickup service. To see if you’re eligible, click here.

When you arrive at Sydney Airport, you will have the option to purchase an Opal card from selected Sydney airport retailers. Opal cards are public transport tickets that allow you to travel from the airport to your desired location, and then continue to use it on public transport across Western Sydney. Please remember to purchase an adult ticket as international students are not eligible for student transport concession, and fines apply. You can find more details on the use of trains and buses at the Transport NSW Information Page.

If you have an American Express, Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal readers. Just look for the contactless payment symbol. Contactless payments are available on all public transport in the Opal network.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the airport. The taxi stand is located outside the international terminal.

Here’s a guide to help you explore the best activities and attractions this charming region has to offer. 

A 10 minute drive away is the Hawkesbury River, a stunning natural feature, perfect for a range of outdoor activities. Enjoy a relaxing boat cruise to take in the picturesque views, or try your hand at kayaking and paddleboarding. Fishing enthusiasts will find plenty of spots to cast a line, while nature lovers can explore the lush riverside bushland and spot local wildlife. 

Step back in time with a visit to Windsor, a 13 minute drive from the village where you will find one of Australia’s oldest towns. Wander through its historic streets and admire well-preserved colonial architecture. The Hawkesbury Regional Museum offers fascinating insights into the area’s past, while the charming local shops and cafes provide a delightful taste of small-town life. 

Just a short drive (approx 60mins) from Hawkesbury, the Blue Mountains are a must-visit. Hike the famous Three Sisters Walk for breathtaking views or venture into the dense forests and discover hidden waterfalls. Scenic World offers unique experiences like the Scenic Skyway and Scenic Railway, providing spectacular views of the landscape. 

The Hawkesbury Showground (11min drive) hosts a variety of events throughout the year, from agricultural shows to markets and festivals. It’s a great place, with activities and attractions suitable for all ages. Check the events calendar to see what’s on during your visit! 

For those who love the great outdoors, Wisemans Ferry (approx 60min drive) offers a range of activities from bushwalking, mountain biking to camping. The area’s natural beauty provides a perfect backdrop for adventure and relaxation.
