Our Research Aims
The research is motivated by five specific aims:
- To better understand the range of challenges that African communities face in Australia;
- To determine why, in the context of these challenges, so many members of this new arrival group join Pentecostal churches and develop such a deep commitment to these institutions;
- To investigate how Christianity facilitates (virtual and real) translocal and transnational mobility and thus an alternative geography of belonging;
- To investigate how research findings in Australia compare with those in Europe and the US, and how the Australian case may enrich the global scholarship on Christianity and the African diaspora;
- To contribute to policy efforts to improve outcomes for African communities in Australia.
