This is where the ALAs can help. And I love it when they come back for more!

#1 tip for success: Make time to learn — studying at uni is not just about passing your assessments; it’s about making lifelong friends and learning how to be a good learner.

What helped me at university? My friends! After a tough class, we would go to the café and have a coffee and chat about what confused us or what we didn’t understand. This really helped me work out what I needed to study more and what I already knew.

Career history: After uni I moved overseas and taught English as a Second Language in various countries, including France, Canada and Australia. In 2016 I started teaching Academic English at The College across all the diploma programs and this year I moved into the ALA role.

Supporting students who want to change their trajectory means a lot to me. Helping you build a strong foundation for your future is a responsibility I take seriously and a privilege I genuinely enjoy.

#1 tip for success: Ask for help. Ask the question, even the one you’re convinced everyone else already knows the answer to. Asking is an act of courage, not weakness.

What helped me at university? Showing up. Sitting in real rooms with real people. Talking to classmates, academics, anyone willing to share a thought. University is less about the buildings and more about the people you meet in them.
