Associate Professor Ahad Javanmardi

Biography

Dr. Ahad Javanmardi is an associate professor at the College of Civil Engineering at Fuzhou University, China. Since May 2023, he is a Visiting Fellow at Centre for Infrastructure Engineering at the School of Engineering Design and Built Environment (EDBE) of Western Sydney University. He has over ten years of international experience in academia and industry. He obtained his doctorate in Structural Engineering and Materials from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 2019. Prior to this, he completed his Master of Engineering major in Civil-Structure from University Technology Malaysia, Malaysia, in 2014. He was awarded several fellowships and grants such as China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Fellowship and University Malaya Postgraduate Research Fund. His research expertise encompasses interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary areas, including Structural Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Structural Control Systems, Bridge Engineering, Soil-Structure Interaction, Strengthening, Structural Health Monitoring, smart and resilient cities, and digital twin. He is an editor of several international SCI journals such as PLOS ONE, Buildings, Advances in Civil Engineering, Frontiers in Built Environment, and Frontiers in Sustainable Cities. Further, he was an organizing committee member of IABSE 2018 Spring Conference and a scientific committee member of several well-known international conferences. He has published over 38 peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters, and two patents. He has given speeches at several international conferences and taught online courses.

Areas of Research/Teaching Expertise

Dr. Javanmardi has hands-on experience in designing and conducting small-to-large-scale tests, operating hydraulic actuators (MTS and Instron), using 3-array shaking tables, and managing sensor installation and data acquisition systems.
