Visiting scholars from Brazil and China

NICM continues to welcome and support visiting international scholars to participate in collaborative projects focused on complementary and integrative medicines.

In 2017, NICM has welcomed to date academics from China and Brazil including, Professor Lin Lizhu, Professor Ning Wang, Dr Linling Sun, Dr Qing Huang, Dr Qi Shuo, Dr Jinru Liang and and Dr Juliana Stefanello. 

  • Professor Lin Lizhu is one of the most outstanding medical and TCM oncologists in China. She is the Director of the Oncology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and has published over 140 papers, 17 books, and contributed to many clinical guidelines in the area. Professor Lizhu is working with NICM on several collaborative projects regarding use of Chinese herbal medicine for advanced lung cancer and liver cancer as well as treatment related cancer conditions.
  • Professor Ning Wang from China's Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, is working with Associate Professor Dennis Change on a number of preclinical studies investigating the pharmacology of herbs on the neurovascular unit. He will return to China at the end of the year.
  • Dr Lingling Sun specialises in integrative oncology from China's Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. During her 12 month visit with NICM she will review preclinical and clinical studies by Professor Lizhu Lin who is based in China. Dr Sun's research interests include exploring the effectiveness of Chinese herbs and integrated therapies in treating lung cancer. 
  • Dr Qing Huang and Dr Qi Shio from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), are working with NICM on the integration of Chinese medicine in clinical services, and will be visiting NICM for 12 months. Senior Chief Doctor Dr Qing Huang specialises in dermatology and Dr Qi Shuo is an attending physician from the Department of Hematology and Oncology.
  • Dr Jinru Liang is conducting research on anticancer herb screening and their underlying mechanism studies, under the supervision of NICM's Associate Professor Chun Guang Li. Specialising in the isolation, identification and bioactivity investigation of natural products, Dr Liang will stay with NICM until the end of 2018.
  • Dr Juliana Stefanello from the University of São Paulo, Brazil has been with NICM over the last three months, returning to Brazil in April. During her time with NICM, Dr Stefanello worked closely with Professor Caroline Smith on a pilot study conducted in Brazil - Effectiveness of auricular acupuncture in milk production of breastfeeding women: a randomized clinical trial. This study is ongoing and the objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture in milk production in lactating mothers.
