Thesis Title

Visual Dimensions Underlying Object Recognition

Research Project

In this project, I am going to investigate how dimensions underlying object recognition are encoded in humans and AI.
We can easily recognise the difference between an apple and a tennis ball while they are very similar on some dimensions (e.g. roundness or size) but they differ in other aspects (e.g. one can be eaten, the other is for sport). How do humans do this? And how can we implement this in AI? To investigate these questions, I use advanced computational methods, EEG, and behavioural studies. We hope to further our understanding of the human visual system and increase the human-likeness of AI models.
