Position Overview

Samalika Perera serves as a Research Engineer in Neuromorphic Computing at the International Centre for Neuromorphic Systems (ICNS). Her role is mainly linked to building ICNS's world's first neuromorphic supercomputer in partnership with Intel. Working closely with a team of researchers and Intel, Samalika plays a crucial part in the design, development, and validation of sophisticated electronic hardware essential to this landmark supercomputer project. Specifically, her work facilitates the deployment of large-scale spiking neural network simulations on the high-end FPGA boards that make up the neuromorphic supercomputer. Samalika brings a wealth of knowledge to this role, having submitted a PhD thesis on Hierarchical Routing and Partitioning of Reconfigurable Neuromorphic Systems at Western Sydney University in 2023, which has enabled her to gain significant skills relevant to neuromorphic computing at ICNS.

Resposibilities

In her role at ICNS, she is responsible for developing and integrating neuromorphic computing platforms, focusing on FPGA technology and user interface enhancements to improve the usability of research tools. Her responsibilities encompass rigorous testing and validation of systems to maintain research integrity. Committed to advancing the field, she is responsible for regularly updating her skills and knowledge in line with the latest developments in neuromorphic computing.
