The High Achieving Teachers at Western Sydney University is funded by the Department of Education to develop and qualify new primary and secondary teachers from diverse socio-cultural and linguistic backgrounds who can work in schools identified as hardest to staff in Greater Western Sydney.

There are 100 spaces in the program over two intakes:
50 places in 2025
50 places in 2026
 

If you have an undergraduate degree equivalent in any area to Australian Bachelor 3-year degree from overseas, or if you have an undergraduate degree from an Australian University, you are eligible to apply.

You will receive a bursary $10 000 per year for two years of study in a Master of Teaching program to a total of $20 000.

You will need to meet the following IELTS scores if your undergraduate degree was completed overseas in a non-English speaking country.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test An IELTS (Academic) test result with an average band score of 7.5 across all four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, with no score below 7.0 in any of the four skill areas and a score of no less than 8.0 in speaking and listening.

You must complete the Academic IELTS test which includes the following components.

  • Writing (60 minutes)
  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Listening (30 minutes)
  • Speaking (11-14 minutes)

After you have applied for a place in the Master of Teaching program and received a conditional offer from Western you can book for your IELTS Test. This is provided through WSU College. Western will cover this test cost of $490.
