Find a Supervisor

All Master of Research (MRes), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) applicants are expected to discuss their proposed research topic with a suitable research supervisor before they submit an application. As a research candidate, finding the right supervisors for your project is crucial to your success.

To find a supervisor who matches your research interests, you should try a combination of the following methods:

  • Visit the School or Institute research pages and look for researchers in your area of interest (see links below).
  • Search the Staff Profiles Directory(opens in a new window) by keyword.

If you find a potential supervisor, you should send them an email introducing yourself, describing your experience and area of interest, and explaining why you would like to work with them on a research project.

If you are finding it difficult to find a supervisor, you should email the HDR Director in the relevant School or Institute. The HDR Director may be able to direct you to a potential supervisor or research project.
