Conditions of participation

Western Sydney University (WSU) emphasises high standards of conduct in overseas programs.

Participants must comply with obligations towards WSU, the host location, and fellow participants. Appropriate behaviour and ensuring personal safety are vital. Non-compliance may lead to expulsion, without refunds or possible repayment of grants/scholarships. Students are expected to exhibit exemplary behaviour, prioritize participant safety, and uphold the reputation of WSU and Australia.

Passport and Visa

Passport

A passport is an official travel document that confirms your identity and nationality.

Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your planned return date. If it is due to expire earlier, you may need to renew it before travelling.

Australian citizens can contact the Australian Passport Office for passport services. Non-Australian citizens should contact the relevant embassy or consulate for advice.

Visa

A travel visa is an official document allowing non-citizens to enter and temporarily stay in a country. It's typically placed in a passport and checked upon entry. Different visas provide varying rights based on the activity and may be influenced by birthplace or citizenship.

Consult your host and verify visa requirements with the relevant embassy or consulate in advance. Only they can provide accurate information. Responsibility lies with you to ensure you have the correct details for entry.

Insurance and emergencies

When you participate in an approved Learning Abroad activity, you will be covered by Western's corporate travel insurance for the official part of the trip. This coverage is limited and does not include personal travel before or after the activity, nor does it cover extreme or high-risk activities.

In case of an emergency overseas, always contact Western's emergency assistance provider, International SOS. They offer comprehensive emergency and medical advice, assistance with insurance claims, and communication coordination with the university and loved ones during incidents.
