Thesis Title:

The Environmental and Economic Performance of Off-site Manufacturing Technologies for Residential Building

Research Project:

The construction industry plays a significant role in causing environmental impacts. Consequently, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is crucial to evaluate and quantify the magnitude of these impacts. In contrast to conventional construction methods, prefabricated and modular construction utilises advanced techniques that effectively reduce embodied impacts, enhance quality and productivity, and minimise waste and pollution. Additionally, off-site construction offers potential time and cost savings compared to on-site construction; however, logistics processes and transportation distance must be considered. As a result, Life Cycle Cost (LCC) Analysis is pivotal in the off-site method. Hence, it is imperative to the environmental and economic performance assessment of off-site construction to determine its advantages over conventional methods and alignment with sustainable goals. Since a huge part of the construction is for residential purposes, this study focuses on residential buildings.
