Thesis Title:

Embedded Energy Harvesting Systems for Structural Health Monitoring and IoT in Multi-story Buildings

Research Project:

It has become increasingly necessary to ensure the structural integrity of multi-story buildings and maintain a reliable Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure. There are several limitations to traditional battery-powered systems used for structural health monitoring and IoT applications, including their finite energy supply and frequent maintenance. To overcome these limitations, embedded energy harvesting systems have gained attention as a promising solution. These systems leverage renewable energy sources, such as solar or vibrational energy, to power the monitoring sensors and IoT devices embedded within the building's structure. The advantage of this approach is that its energy autonomy can be maintained for a longer period of time, maintenance costs are reduced, and sustainability is enhanced. In this regard, we explore the potential of embedded energy harvesting systems for structural health monitoring and IoT in multi-story buildings.
