About Us

The Chinese Medicine Centre was established in November 2014 through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Western Sydney University (WSU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM).

The MoU was signed in the presence of Australia's head of government and China's head of state. The Centre is a major outcome from the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, highlighting the collaboration for promoting traditional Chinese medicine for better health and wellbeing through education, scientific research and culture exchange. The Chinese Medicine collaboration between Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Western Sydney University has been strong for more than a decade and has received substantial support through NICM Health Research Institute, the world-class research institute at Western Sydney University.

The Chinese Medicine Centre is located at the Campbelltown and Westmead campuses of Western Sydney University. The first meeting of the Governing Council of the Chinese Medicine Centre was held on September 26, 2018, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of Western Sydney University and the President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. This marks a new stage of development for the Centre after years of work in forging the foundations for collaboration. Supported by the two Universities, industry, and various stakeholders, the Centre serves as a beacon to guide education and research in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with the aim of benefitting local, national, and global communities.
