Dr Melinda Jewell

Melinda Jewell is Writing & Society’s Research Project Officer, and oversees the Group’s postgraduate training program. She has a multi-faceted academic background across science, dance and literature. In 2009 she graduated with a PhD, her thesis entitled "The Representation of Dance in Australian Novels: The Darkness beyond the Stage-lit Dream." In this research she challenged the notion that dance is always an expression of vitality and transcendence and set out, through the medium of Australian novels, to explore how dance has a darker side or underbelly. In early 2011 her thesis was published with Peter Lang. Her current research interest is the representation of climate change in Australian literature.
