The Writing and Society Research Centre is committed to fostering public discussion around literature and writing more generally. We do this through our literary events and conferences. Where possible we seek to extend the life of these events through audio and video documentation that can be accessed on our event archive and Vimeo channel.

Seminar Series

The Writing and Society Research Centre runs a series of seminars that occur regularly throughout the year. Seminars are presented by Centre members, visiting scholars and our postgraduate students. Seminars are open to participants from other universities, and interested writers, critics, researchers and readers.

Partnerships

In collaboration with our public engagement partners the Centre has organised events with a diverse range of community and arts sector collaborators including Parramatta Artists’ Studios, City of Parramatta, Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival and Varuna National Writers’ House, Bankstown Poetry Slam, State Library of NSW, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Sydney Film Festival, the Biennale of Sydney, Sydney Arab Film Festival, Art Gallery of NSW, Utp (formerly Urban Theatre Projects), Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, The Finishing School Collective, the Australian Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, among many others.

We also organise launches and readings to mark publications by Giramondo Publishing, Sydney Review of Books and The Writing Zone.
