PhD and Doctor of Creative Arts

The Writing & Society Research Centre welcomes suitably qualified applicants for postgraduate study. The supervision of doctoral theses is one of our main teaching activities. We have a strong cohort of doctoral candidates, many of whom are published authors and critics.

Our postgraduate program offers both PhDs and DCAs (Doctor of Creative Arts) for students pursuing historical or theoretical research on literary topics, or creative writing projects with an exegetical component. It is designed to facilitate discussion through expert supervision, presentations in reading and writing groups and masterclasses, as well as participation in the centre's research seminars led by distinguished scholars and writers.

In these ways the program seeks to provide a common foundation in literary history and Australian literature for the research projects pursued individually by candidates. A regular postgraduate seminar provides practical information on the preparation and writing of theses.

Successful applicants are also often awarded scholarships. Financial assistance is available to all doctoral candidates to support travel, research and publication expenses.
