    Maths Start Refresher Program

    Tuesday, 2 February

    Do you need to refresh your general numeracy, maths or statistics before starting uni? Many students do. The Maths Start Refresher 2026 helps prepare you for university-level maths and stats through FREE self-paced online modules on MESH’s vUWS Companion Maths Start sites. You can also attend optional face-to-face sessions at Parramatta South campus on Mon 2 and Tue 3 Feb to meet MESH tutors, connect with other students, and learn more about the program. During February, work through the relevant self-paced vUWS Maths Start modules and access daily real-time support from MESH via Zoom.

    Western Pantry is back for 2026! Come and pick up some free pantry staples on Tuesday 24th February to get your semester off to a flying start. We will have a variety of items available (e.g. canned goods, pasta, noodles, long-life milk, tea/coffee, snacks), and it will be first in, first served. The event will end at 12pm or until items run out. Following Welcome Week, Western Pantry will be open from 9-12pm every week during semester (excluding mid-semester break).     See how Adobe Express can help you level up your coursework and projects fast. No design experience needed. In this session, you’ll learn how to: turn an essay or report into a clean presentation or infographic, design eye‑catching posters and social posts for clubs, events, and portfolios, use built‑in templates and safe generative AI to move from idea to finished piece quickly.     Participate in guided activities and short demonstrations that unpack how generative AI tools generate responses. You’ll practise checking accuracy, identifying bias and gaps, and cross-verifying AI-generated information using credible academic sources.     As a part of your Engineering degree, you must complete subject MATH 1021: Mathematics for Engineers Preliminary or equivalent before moving on to MATH 1016: Mathematics for Engineers 1. Students who feel that they have advanced mathematical skills because they have received high results in extension maths at high school can attempt this exam, which covers questions on algebra, trigonometry, calculus, theory of functions and other relevant skills. Students who receive a mark of at least 80% in this test can move directly to MATH 1016.Register now to take the exam. Location: Parramatta South Campus, Building EA, Lower Ground

    Drowning in readings and handouts? In this session, you’ll learn how Acrobat can help you stay organised and on top of your work. We’ll cover how to: comment, highlight, and add notes to lecture slides and articles, combine, reorder, and compress PDFs for assignments and group projects quickly export PDFs to Word or PowerPoint when you need to keep editing. Perfect if you want to save time (and stress) during term when juggling PDFs. Location: EA.1.03

    Student Publications Zine Workshop

    Tuesday, 24 February 3:00pm - 5:00pm

    Join an interactive zine making workshop with the editors of your student publication, W’SUP News! What is a zine and why should I make one? Zines are designed to be flexible, creative and relatively small ad hoc publication to share information, stories, poetry, inside jokes or commentary, art for the sake of art, motivation or inspirational calls to action, grassroots education, or a creative way to confess. You make it your own, you get to take it home, and we’ll teach you the steps as to how to replicate copies, and even the pathway for W’SUP to publish your zine online.
