The Matter of Facts: Knowing Who and What to Trust in a Post-Truth World
Panel Event: March 25, Parramatta South Campus, Western Sydney University
The team behind the three-part ABC television series, The Matter of Facts, provided WSU staff and students with a sneak preview. In the series, journalist Hamish Macdonald takes part in a social experiment with 20 Australians to explore the personal impact of the opaque and manipulative digital ecosystems we inhabit, while he travels the world to understand how disinformation is damaging our democracies and to explore why so many people believe AI poses the greatest threat of all.
Hamish and the team played clips from the series and joined an expert panel to discuss how universities and communities can take the reins to address the many challenges posed by disinformation.
News Champions Forum
21 young people from across Australia had their voices heard at the News Champions National Forum on Oct 20-22nd 2019, hosted at the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) in Canberra.
Media Literacy Research Symposium
This Symposium event was help to build momentum and support collaboration to ensure that media literacy research can inform policy and practice at a time when media literacy is now on the Australia policy agenda.
Towards A National Strategy for Media Literacy
To develop a national strategy for Media Literacy in 2021 we organised six workshops across Australia. The consultation workshops included 121 people representing 89 organisations.
Australian Media Literacy Summit
More than 200+ participants took part in the Inaugural 2023 Australian Media Literacy Summit. The Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP opened the event and stated that the Federal Government is "making media literacy a national priority."
2024 Adult Media Literacy Survey launch
More than 150 people joined the report launch event, hosted online and in person at the Museum of Australian Democracy.
