Study With Us

Postgraduate candidates are housed at ICS, and can enrol in one of the following postgraduate research degrees:

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Opens in a new window)
  1. Doctor of Cultural Research (DCR) (Opens in a new window)
  1. Master of Philosophy (Opens in a new window)
  1. Master of Research (Opens in a new window)

Students are not limited to producing a written thesis: they may produce a creative work alongside an exegesis, or may submit a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by Publication.

In 2025, under the direction of A/P Malini Sur, the ICS HDR curriculum will operate across five axes: day-long HDR seminars and workshops, riverwalking seminars, masterclasses, the Key Concepts and Thinkers lecture series, and a co-funded symposium in collaboration with the University of Sydney. In the past, these key events have been structured around questions relating to theory, empirics and the dissertation writing process. Participating in our ICS events and activities provides opportunities for postgraduate research students to join a space where colleagues dedicate their time and attention to discussing research and ideas.

Serious prospective candidates are requested to submit a well-formulated proposal with a short Expression of Interest (EOI), resume and writing sample (5000 words) to the HDR/T Director A/P Malini Sur.

We request that you reach out to potential supervisors before submitting your proposal.
