Stomach Study

About the Research

We are recruiting volunteers to donate tissue removed during sleeve gastrectomy towards research at the Western Sydney University. This study will investigate an elusive population of stomach specific cells, Interstitial Cells of Cajal (ICC), responsible for gastrointestinal pace-making. ICC are essential to healthy gut motility yet have not be extensively studied to date. We plan to isolate and characterise ICC from donated tissue to better understand their role in human health and disease.
