Solar Engineering
Complementing the initiatives underway by School of Engineering (opens in a new window) for solar energy demonstration and the solar car team, solar photovoltaic installations around the Engineering precinct at Kingswood are being made available as teaching resources.
A 200 kW rooftop system with battery support has been installed on Building Z, and an additional 100kW carpark solar structure has been constructed on the adjacent carpark P29. The combined system has turned the engineering precinct into a solar microgrid.
Along with support from Tosin Famakinwa of Technical Services, Ali Hellany of Engineering has had students investigate opportunities for system optimisation.
