Powerhouse Late: Climate

Date: Thursday, 27 July 2023, 5:00-9:00PM
Location: Powerhouse (Ultimo) - 500 Harris St Ultimo NSW 2007

What happens when you take the visual activism commonly found on the streets of the climate protest into the formal space of the museum?

On Thursday July 27 you'll have the opportunity to find out.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to Powerhouse Late: Climate. This event will showcase some of the work being undertaken in a Y&R-led ARC Discovery Project, ‘New Possibilities: Student Climate Action and Democratic Renewal’ led by Professor Pip Collin, with Dr Michelle Catanzaro and Dr Luigi di Martino.

The result of a collaboration between Michelle Catanzaro (Design, WSU) and Brianna Barwise (Program Producer – 100 Climate Conversations), this event is a cross-institutional exchange between Powerhouse Ultimo, Young and Resilient Research Centre, Western Sydney University, UTS, and the Wollotuka Institute (University of Newcastle).

Powerhouse Late: Climate will feature student and community-led workshops that navigate the role of visual communication and storytelling in responding to climate change. The event will also bring together students from across NSW who have been working together to create a powerful and impactful exhibition that explores the climate crisis from a youth perspective, including student work from across Western Sydney University’s Visual Communication Design program.

Professor Pip Collin and Dr Michelle Catanzaro will also facilitate a panel that interrogates the relationship between young people’s visual activism and climate politics, alongside outputs from their recent ARC funded Discovery Project ‘New Possibilities, Young People and Democratic Renewal’.

Bring your friends and family, engage in a workshop, watch a panel or muso or have a drink at the bar. Hope to see you there!
