Enhancing Digital Participation Amongst Refugee and Migrant Background Youth – Showcase and Workshop

Date: Thursday, 31 August 2023, 10:00AM-1:00PM
Location: Online

What is the role of digital participation for the work, study and wellbeing of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds? How can organisations, governments and industry better engage with young people to support their digital participation? This hybrid showcase will present findings from Enhancing Digital Participation Amongst Refugee and Migrant Background Youth, a VicHealth-funded collaborative project between Deakin University, Western Sydney University and The Centre for Multicultural Youth (all members of the Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies). The project investigates what helps and hinders the digital participation of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, focusing on how their use of technology impacts their work, study, connection, and wellbeing. This workshop will be an opportunity for key stakeholders and young people themselves to think about how organisations can engage with young people to support their digital participation; how this engagement can be sustained and youth-centred; and what’s already working when it comes to youth digital engagement. This event will showcase the study’s key findings and learnings from its youth-designed initiatives, including an interactive session facilitated by young people who have led these initiatives.
