Bachelor of Creative Leadership (BCL) Spring Session Now Open

You can register in the BCL now by completing the Program Application Form: Concurrent Degree (opens in a new window) in the WesternNow Student Portal.

Once your BCL application has been approved, you will need to submit a Rule Waiver ((MySR > Student Forms > Rule Waiver) to register into subjects. Please note that enrolments in the BCL are assessed manually which can result in some processing delays.

Alternatively, you have the option to take BCL subjects as electives to complement your current degree.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and skills in leadership and ethics and help you grow your capacity to lead in complexity by focusing on high-level logical, entrepreneurial, and systems thinking.

The Bachelor of Creative Leadership (BCL) provides transformative educational experience, internships, student-led projects, and community engagement opportunities that will expand your ability to examine and influence current and future paradigms. You will emerge with a sound balance of theory, practical experiences, and leadership skillsets – so you can take your career further than you ever thought possible.

In the BCL, you will engage with innovative assessments that prepare you for work-related challenges and gain experience by participating in a diverse range of real-world opportunities. Students learn to articulate their ideas into innovative strategies that address complex contemporary and future challenges. The skills learned in the BCL are transferable to any discipline and are what the employer of tomorrow will be seeking in a graduate in various roles including global workplaces.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Creative Leadership is a concurrent degree that is designed to be combined with any Bachelor degree at Western.

The BCL degree consists of eight subjects that can be taken concurrently with subjects in your discipline-based degree. The subjects are designed with flexibility in-mind and delivered in intensive mode in the week prior to the commencement of Autumn and Spring sessions. This allows students to take a BCL subject in addition to the four discipline-based subjects in a semester, and/or complete BCL subjects during Summer sessions*.

Benefits of undertaking the BCL

Total of eight units and graduate with two degrees: These can be taken concurrently with your undergraduate degree by completing units in Summer sessions or during Semester 1 and Semester 2 (in intensive mode format), or as an additional year of study (full-time)
Intensive mode teaching: Under an intensive mode model, units are taught as two full days over the semester, commencing the week before each semester starts to avoid time-tabling clashes
No exams: Students will undertake innovative assessments such as green papers, white papers and writing their own inaugural speech, rather than traditional essays and sit-down exams
Self-paced: Complete assessments at your own pace – work around pre-existing commitments and other unit assessments
Interactive teaching style: A focus on problem-based learn with interactive in-class activities
Start at any-time during your degree: You can commence studying units at the start of any semester (including summer session) whilst completing your undergraduate degree. You don’t have to be a first-year student.

Entry Requirements

New Students

The ATAR requirement for the Bachelor of Creative Leadership is 85.00. As a new student, you can enrol in the BCL from the first semester at the University, but should seek advice from your Academic Course Advisor or The Academy’s Academic Coordinator. Students must maintain a GPA of 5.0.

All units in the BCL are delivered on the Parramatta Campus. If you enrol in the BCL you will be invited to become a member of The Academy.

Current Students

Current undergraduate students can combine their degree with the BCL if they have a GPA of 5+. For more information go to the BCL Course Information page (opens in a new window).
