Microcredential Programs

To thrive in your career, you must keep pace with new developments and emerging skills, and Western’s Microcredentials will redefine how you consume quality Higher Education experiences. They are a great way to maintain currency in your field.

Microcredentials are designed to be short, stackable, industry relevant, and digitally credentialed learning experiences, all hosted within our microcredentials platform Open Learning.

Created in conjunction with leading industry partners, our suite of Microcredentials expands across all areas of study including in Business, Medicine, Nursing, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, IT, Sustainability and more. You can access the full list here.

Students who complete some of our microcredential programs, or "stacks", are also eligible to receive Credit for Prior Learning in nominated programs at Western Sydney University (WSU). Currently, credit arrangements are in place for specific microcredentials completed with the following providers:

  • Institutes of Applied Technology
  • Western Sydney University The College

Institutes of Applied Technology

The Institutes of Applied Technology are a collaboration between TAFE NSW, industry, universities, and supported by the Department of Education. There are two institutes:
  • Institute of Applied Technology Digital (IATD)
  • Institute of Applied Technology Construction (IATC)

The IATC is focused on future innovations and leadership in Construction and is located at TAFE NSW Nepean (Kingswood). IATC has been working in collaboration with TAFE NSW, CPB Contractors, and Western Sydney University to design and deliver market-leading training that rapidly adapts to industry needs. IATC have subsequently designed a range of microcredentials to support this initiative in the signature disciplines of Project Management, Contract Administration, and Digital Construction. Students who complete any of the identified "stacks" listed below are eligible to apply for Credit for Prior Learning after successfully enrolling into any of the listed relevant WSU programs.

Students who complete other combinations of IATC microcredentials are still eligible to apply for Credit for Prior Learning, but credit is not guaranteed.
